Health Testing - Why its important

At Le-Bella Ragdolls, the health of our cats and kittens is at the heart of our breeding programme. We believe responsible breeding starts long before a litter is born, which is why our breeding cats are carefully health tested before being included in our programme.

We use established veterinary laboratories, including Langford Vets, for DNA testing. Our breeding cats are tested for important inherited conditions associated with the Ragdoll breed, including Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM) and Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) where appropriate. We also use additional testing, such as blood grouping and colour genetics, to help us make informed and carefully planned breeding decisions.

Health testing cannot guarantee that a cat will never develop a health problem, but it allows us to reduce the risk of known inherited conditions being passed on and helps us breed as responsibly as possible.

We are happy to be transparent about our testing and provide evidence of relevant results for our breeding cats. For us, health testing is not an optional extra — it is an essential part of protecting the future of the breed.
